The Wildcats get set to announce their 2010 recruiting class on Wednesday and one additional name that did not appear on commit lists until Tuesday night will appear on the final list released by the school. Defensive tackle Sani Fuimaono has revealed that he will be a Wildcat.“I actuall."
y committed in December but I gave them a soft verbal and I wanted to keep it quiet," Fuimaono said Tuesday night.
Fuimaono is a 6-2, 265-pound defensive tackle from Honolulu who is ESPN.com’s No. 132 rated defensive tackle, fell in love with Tucson on his visit back in November.
"The main reason is probably just the place, you know, Tucson,” Fuimaono said. “It’s a great college town and I fit in real well. I like the campus and everything just fits me."
The Cats have had some recent success in recruiting Hawaii and a large part of that is assistant coach Mike Tuiasasopo. He and Fuiaono hit it off right off the bat.
"I love Coach Tui,” Fuimaono said. “He is a big reason I am going there. He and I get along and he is funny and a good, honest coach."
The freshman-to-be feels he can come in and compete right away.
"I am going to play the three-technique defensive tackle,” Fuimaono said. “I want to go in and compete and try to see the field as a freshman."
Wildcat fans may not want to get too used to the young defensive tackle. He is Mormon and plans on going on his mission.
"They are going to let me go to school for a year and then do my mission for the church,” Fuimaono explained. “They said they will hold my scholarship for me."
