As reported last evening by Wildcat Sports Report, Derrick Williams had come to a decision about where he would be playing college basketball. That decision has now become public news as Williams will be playing college basketball for the University of Arizona.
Multiple reports and sources have confirmed that Williams will in deed be playing in Tucson for Arizona under Head Coach Sean Miller beginning in 2009-10.
WSR spoke to Williams last night who made it clear that he had made his decision, and that his decision could mean positive news for an Arizona team looking to bolster their depth and talent in the front court. With the exception of 2009 commit Kyryl Natyazhko and junior-to-be Alex Jacobson, the Wildcats are in need of players developing into front court talent; which is exactly what most figure Williams will bring the Wildcats.
Williams becomes the fifth recruit for Miller and his staff since they arrived at Arizona, and figures to all but complete a recruiting class that some were not sure would even exist. He is also the third player to have been a commitment to USC under Tim Floyd but opted to then de-commit from his pledge to the Trojans due to the sudden departure of Floyd and the alleged recruiting violations.
Stay tuned to more from WSR regarding the commitment of Williams.
